My beautiful mom, Jann Enola Pace-Barker, entered into eternal life on Saturday, June 18, 2022. She was 55 years old with a young soul and a wild heart. Jann was born on December 27, 1966 in New Orleans, LA to Theron Henry and Carolyn Collins Pace. She was the 6th of their 7 children. She was preceded in death by her father, Theron H. Pace. Jann’s bright spirit is ever-loved and will continue to be carried on by me, her daughter, Ashlee Brackeen. She is survived by her sweet mother, Carolyn “Pat” Collins Pace and her six siblings, Theron “Mark” Pace (Cathy) of Jackson, MS, Patricia Kay Pace of Madison, MS, Elizabeth “Ellie” Pace Lamson (Mark) of San Diego, CA, Robert “Bob” Wyatt Pace of Madison, MS, Chalmers “Chal” Collins Pace of Brandon, MS, and Rebekah Pace Falgout of Slidell, LA. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Andrew Falgout, Mary Elizabeth Pace, Collins Pace, Milla Pace, Bryan Pace, Natalie Pace and Alex Pace. People from all walks of life adore my mom and grieve her loss with us. Jann and her large family were very active in First Baptist Church of New Orleans while growing up. She graduated from O. Perry Walker High School (‘84) where she was a proud co-captain of the award-winning Chargerettes dance team while also attending NOCCA in New Orleans for theatre and drama. Jann attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA and finally graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication with a minor in Spanish which she was extremely fluent in from having lived and studied abroad with the Mexico Selec School of Language in Oaxaca, Mexico. Jann actually began her work career in high school as a hostess to players like John Daly and Chi Chi Rodriguez at the Lakewood Country Club for the USF&G Golf Classic in New Orleans. She also worked as a hostess at the New Orleans Hilton Riverside & Towers at the famed Kabby’s restaurant winning employee of the year. Upon her college graduation, Jann worked at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance under Bill Hornsby in his New Orleans, LA agency. Jann also spent some time being a Spanish teacher in the Baton Rouge area schools which she loved and was beloved. She was an absolute avid Mardi Gras, LSU and Saints fan as well as being very passionate about family, fitness, theater, film, music, dance and hospitality/travel.
It is simply impossible to capture the largeness of my mother’s life. My mom lived life to the fullest, and I am devastated by all that is lost. When I feel a sprinkling of rain on a sunshiny day, hear a loud, goofy laugh or get to see a High School marching band coming, I will think of my mom. Please help us honor her life and memory by feeling big, loving deep, and always shining brightly.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at noon on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at The Tigermen Den, 3113 Royal St, New Orleans, LA. All those who enjoyed or loved and knew her are invited to come and cry, laugh, hug and share some of your fondest memories.
