Jess Louis Matherne Jr.

Jess Louis Matherne Jr. passed away peacefully on February 10, 2018 at the age of 73. Born in Galveston, Texas on September 12, 1944, he lived in New Orleans for 57 years and a resident of Metairie for the past 16 years. He was the beloved husband of Cecilia Helmer Matherne for 52 years. Father of Jess Louis Matherne III, Scott Matherne (Stacey), Amy Matherne Bourg (Scott). Grandfather of Jenna, Toby, Macy Bourg and Billy Matherne. Son of the late Jess Louis Matherne Sr. and Therese Simon Matherne. Brother of John A. Matherne (Gayle), Therese M. “Terry” Siles (Norman), Sue M. Eckert (Danny), the late Michael Matherne, Sr. (Janice) and the late Don G. Matherne (Kathy). Brother-in-law of Calvin J. Helmer (Gail), the late William H. Helmer, Jr. (Guadalupe) and Donna Grose. Step-brother-in-law of Cindy Cazenavette (George) and a host of nieces and nephews. Graduated from Fortier High School and New Orleans Barber and Beauty College. Owner of Jess’s Barber Shop for over 40 years, He served as President of the Barbers & Beauticians Credit Union for over 20 years. Former parishioner and lector at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in New Orleans and parishioner of St. Benilde Parish in Metairie. Jess will be remembered for his love of family, cooking skills and his passion for painting. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at St. Benilde Catholic Church, 1901 Division Street, Metairie, Louisiana 70001 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2018.
