Jo Ann Cardella Pumila earned her angel wings May 2, 2021. Jo Ann was born Sept. 30, 1945 in New Orleans and spent her later years in Kenner, Louisiana. She met her husband, Albert Joseph (A.J.) Pumila at Pontchartrain Beach in 1963. A.J. couldn’t help but fall in love with this beautiful redhead who had a feisty spirit to match, and the couple wed on Sept. 6, 1968 on A.J.’s birthday. Jo Ann spent the next 52 years dancing to oldies with A.J. and raising their three children. A licensed real estate agent, Jo Ann helped her husband manage Albert J. Pumila Realtors and Appraisers, the company they built together and successfully ran for 40 years.

A devout Catholic member of Divine Mercy Parish, Jo Ann spent her life loving and serving the Lord. She enjoyed tending the beautiful flowers in her garden and watching the horses she and A.J. owned run at the Fairgrounds. Jo Ann was the rock of her family, the strength that carried family members through good times and bad. She loved to cook delicious meals and large holiday feasts. Her laughter was contagious, and she shared that laughter generously with everyone she met. Hers was a life lived in love—a happy love story shared with her husband, her children, and her four precious grandchildren, who called her MeMo. There was nothing Jo Ann enjoyed more than spending time with and playing with her grandchildren.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her mother, Elmera Wedge. She is survived by her loving husband, A.J. Pumila; her three children, Albert Pumila Jr. (Cherie), Robin Pumila-Atkins, and Gasper Pumila (Angel); and her four grandchildren, Mia Pumila, Albert Pumila III, Olivia Atkins, and Isabella Pumila, all of whom will cherish her memory and carry her in their hearts forever.

Visitation will be held for Jo Ann’s family Saturday, May 8, 2021, from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, located at 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie, Louisiana. Visitation for the public will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. The family would appreciate it if masks are worn.

A J., Alex and I were so sorry to hear about Jo Ann's passing. She was such a devoted wife and mother. She always put her family first and lovingly guided them through life. You and Jo Ann were always such a wonderful team. It was hard to think about one without the other. Praying that your strong faith will give you strength and comfort in the days to come knowing she is with the Lord.
