Joan Roberts Friend

Joan Roberts Anderson Friend, age 78 years, died at her residence on Tuesday, May 24, 2011. She is the wife of Joseph E. Friend, mother of Anne Elizabeth Friend of Mandeville, LA, Courtney (Coco) Friend Parham of Asheville, NC, Christopher A. Friend of Mandeville, LA and Robert Duff Friend of New Orleans, LA. Daughter of the late Laura Roberts Anderson and Howard Shelley Anderson. Grandmother of Joseph P. Friend, Nicholas C. Friend, Ellsworth D. Parham, Emma F. Parham, Elise (Ellie) Friend, Davis M. Friend, Colin H. W. Friend, Emory A. Friend and Martha G. A. Friend. She was born in Camden, NJ and resided in Forty-Fort, PA until her attendance at Pembroke College of Brown University, from which she graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature. She was a resident of New Orleans since 1957. Mrs. Friend was one of the founders of St. George’s Episcopal School, was a former member of the Alumni Board of Brown University and a member of the Quarante Club.

Friends are invited to a memorial reception to be held at home, 1666 Soniat Street on Friday, May 27, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Private interment. Kindly omit flowers. Memorials to the Audubon Institute, 6500 Magazine St., New Orelans, LA 70115 or charity of choice preferred.
