My name is Theresa. Joan was my younger sister. We were 14 months apart.
Joan was a very loving and kind hearted person. She loved her family. She also loved animals and had her own special language when she spoke to them. She would not hesitate to jump up and start dancing or to imitate someone or to make fun of herself just to make you laugh. She also didn’t bite her tongue as you knew exactly what she was thinking.
One time we were at a town carnival to enjoy the amusement park rides and the attendant told Joan that he could not let her on the ride because she was pregnant. Joan looked at him, grabbed her stomach, and said “I’m not pregnant, I’m just fat!”
If I was with Joan when someone complimented her on her natural hair color, she would thank them and then reply that my hair should also look like hers, but I dyed mine.
Joan endured her share of heartaches in her life, but she also had plenty of joy. One of the happiest moments in her life is when her son, Zachary, was born. She was ecstatic to finally become a mother. I remembered the day she found out that she was pregnant, you would have thought she had won the lottery.
It was the simple things in life that brought a smile to her face. Whether it was a trip to the zoo, a walk in the park or just a visit, she was happy.
Joan, we love you. You will always be in our minds. We will speak to you and you will always remain in our hearts forever. We will miss you.
