Joan McEniry Couret Thomas

Joan McEniry Couret Thomas entered eternal rest and peace on Tuesday, July 3, 2012. Born in Rochester, N.Y, and long-time resident of Covington, LA. Joan is the mother of Vincent Palumbo, Betty Lou Mathews, Anthony Gugliuzza, and the late Joanne Tunstall. Grandmother of Roger, Daniel, Michael, Anthony, Vincent, Raychelle, Tony, Angelique and Todd. Great Grandmother of ten and Great-great grandmother of one.

Early in Joan's professional career she was a leading force of women in the real estate business. She was very successful in property sales throughout the Metro area. She then ventured into the small business world with successful ventures in Jefferson Parish. It was there that she found her true passion and became the Patient Account Administrator at East Jefferson General Hospital and gained her accreditation for Hospital Administration from UCLA, working at East Jefferson General Hospital for nearly 15 years. Joan was a long-time member of the American Business Women's Association where she was past president, secretary, and treasurer. She was the ABWA Woman of The Year in 1972 and again in 1979. Joan was an active member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary Unit 16 of Covington, LA. Joan will be most remembered for her "Can Do" attitude and her love of life and celebrations of all holidays with her closest friends and family - especially the 4th of July, with costumes, decorations, and the many parades and festivities. She will be missed by all.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 9, 2012 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by the Funeral Service at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
