Joan Buisson Turchin

Joan Turchin, beloved educator and mother of three, passed away 22 December 2018; she was 68. Born Joan Marie Buisson in New Orleans, she was sixth of ten children. A graduate of St Joseph Academy, class of 1968, and LSUNO in 1972. She has been a resident of the Seattle, WA area for over 40 years. For 30 years she worked as a beloved school teacher at Carnation Elementary School, in the town of Carnation, WA. She is survived by her three children: Christopher Turchin, Nicolas Turchin, and Heather Henne; eight siblings: Diane Calamia, Terry Dickson, Jackie Messa, Robert Buisson, Paul Buisson, Thomas Buisson, Greg Buisson, Peter Buisson; and four grandchildren. Quick to make friends, she will be remembered by many. Her greatest joys were raising and educating children, and her influence is felt around the world. She spent her free time in her garden and later in life in the meadows near Mt Rainier in Washington State. Her favorite hobby was playing poker in local competitive leagues. A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 411 North Rampart Street, New Orleans, on Friday, 11 Jan at 10:00. Visitation will begin in church at 9:30. Inurnment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery No. 2. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the King County Library Foundation (
