

John Chase, 82, of Metairie, LA, passed peacefully in his home on September 22, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 30, 1944, in Cloutierville, LA, to his parents Joseph Churchill and Laura Gallien Chase.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Churchill Chase and Laura Gallien Chase, and by his brother, Joseph Churchill Chase, Jr.
He graduated from East Jefferson High School in 1962 and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, where he proudly served in Sabine Pass, TX; Cameron, LA; and at the New Canal Lighthouse in New Orleans. After an honorable discharge, he continued to serve his country with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Army, U.S. Customs, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, retiring as a Special Agent after 37 and a half years of federal law enforcement.
John was an active participant in his parish, St. Angela Merici, serving as a scout leader, assisting with the summer baseball program, and serving as an usher at the weekly 11:00 Sunday Mass. He was a proud member of American Legion Post 267. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman who loved spending time in the marshes of South Louisiana.
John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Nancy Landry Chase; his two sons and their wives, John L. “Jay” Chase, Jr. (Meg Andrus Chase) of Lafayette, LA, and Steven Jeffery Chase (Erin Gerdes Chase) of Metairie, LA; and his five grandchildren, Joseph Conrad Chase, John Christopher Chase, Jacob William Chase, Molly Marie Chase, and Nicholas Andrew Chase. He is also survived by his sister, Laura Chase Arnett (Lawrence Arnett); his brother, Michael Chase (Brenda Fallon Chase); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, 901 Beverly Garden Dr., Metairie, LA 70002. Visitation will be held in the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. before Mass.
Interment will be at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4900 Airline Hwy., Metairie, LA.
