John “Johnny” Marchese, Age 97, passed away peacefully at his home on March 2, 2015 at 4:00 pm. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy Bellott Marchese, father of John J. Marchese (Diann), Ralph J. Marchese (Angie), and Kathy Marchese Spadoni (Pete). Preceded in death by his parents, Raffale Marchese and Caterina Guagliano and his grandson, Ralph J. Marchese Jr. He is survived by 8 grandchildren, 28 great-granchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. He was a long time resident of Metairie. He worked at the L + N Railroad, the Great Southern Box Factory, USI Chemical, Plant and for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office as a Process Server. Next to family and his wife, his greatest loves were Tulane Football and the St. Patrick Parade of Jefferson, which he organized and captained from 1970 until 2012. He was given the title of Captain Emeritus in 2013 and was chosen to be Grand Marshall of the 2013 parade. He was a member of the parade committee until his death. He belonged to the Good Old Boys Club, the Batt Club, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 12. His grandkids loved listening to stories of his life growing up in the French Quarter. Those who got to know him loved him. He loved to sing two songs, “Che-La-Luna” and McNamara’s Band”, and at every event he attended he was always asked to do one or both songs. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Deborah Johnson (whom he called his adopted daughter), Sherrill Link, Keicia Jones, and Margie Robinson, who were the aids who cared for him 24/7 and grew to love him like a family member. God bless each of them. Special thanks to Notre Dame Hospice Nurses, Sister Paula and Staff for their care and to Dr. Robert Ryan, Family Medicine, who for 40 years cared for Dad and to his heart doctor, Dr. William Rolston for his outstanding care for Dad. He will be greatly missed not only by family but by everyone and anyone who ever got to meet him. He may be gone but fond memories of Dad will live forever for each of us. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent in his name to the Notre Dame Hospice at 1000 Howard Avenue, 10th Floor, New Orleans, 70113. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service from LEITZ-EAGAN Metairie, 4747 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, on Friday afternoon, March 6, 2015 at 1:00.
