

John L. Northcutt, Sr., also known as Johnny, age 86, left us on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, with his family by his side in Mandeville, Louisiana. Mr. Northcutt was born on February 3, 1927, in Winchester, Tennessee to the late John Herbert Northcutt and Sally Morris Northcutt. He was a WWII veteran in the US Navy and retired from the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board on January 11, 1982 after 35 years. After retirement, he worked in carpentry for the next 15 years. John was appointed Colonel Aide de Camp to Gov. Dave Treen on November 10, 1981, served on the board of the City Park Golf Club for a number of years and was a charter member of the WWII Museum in New Orleans. He served in his church from 1989-2010. When his residence changed to Darrow, Louisiana, he became a member of the Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge until his passing. Johnny’s interests included family, church, friends and helping people. People always felt important and loved when around him. He taught people how to laugh and love themselves and others. Always willing to house and care for people in need, Johnny was quick to volunteer to help whether it be building something for them or giving them a place to call home. Mr. Northcutt is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Joyce Carona Northcutt; a son, John L. Northcutt, Jr. (Doris),a son, Richard L. Northcutt, Sr. (Joann) and a daughter, Debra A. Northcutt; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by a son, Paul J. Northcutt and two sisters, Nellie Dutel (Louis) and Lena Meadows (James).
Visitation will be held at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, Louisiana from 9:00 am until 11:00 am followed by the funeral service on Monday, September 23, 2013. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
