

It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of John Fillmore Prieur, Jr. on Saturday, July 25th, 2026. John died peacefully in his sleep after a 2 1/2-year battle with ALS. He was 69 years old.
John, born August 28, 1956, was a wonderful man, loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend to so many.
He was a graduate of Archbishop Rummel High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Business, with a Major in Marketing, from Nicholls State University.
He was a devout Catholic and a true Christian man, giving countless years of service to his parish. John chaired many St. Edward the Confessor school fairs and received the prestigious St. Edward Eddy Award and the Archdiocese of New Orleans Order of St. Louis Award. As a salesman, he was very proud of his work in the food brokerage and service industries for over 45 years including owning his own business, Premier Food Service Sales.
John was an active member of his community all of his life. He especially cherished his time coaching numerous sports at Mike Miley playground. For 19 years, John coached the defense for the 8th and 9th grade football teams at Jesuit High School. He had a special talent in building and woodworking. But above all, he was happiest spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Doris Dittmann Prieur; his baby brother, David, and sister, Michele Prieur Villavaso.
He leaves behind the love of his life, his devoted wife and best friend, Cheryl Toujouse Prieur; his three sons whom he was so proud of, John F. Prieur, III (Mary Beth), David W. Prieur (Lindsey) and Gregory S. Prieur (Katie) and his grandchildren whom he adored: Claire, Will, Kellan, Eiley, and Lily Prieur. He is also survived by his siblings: Beth P. Galland (Gene), Christopher M. Prieur, Sr., (Gaye,) James E. Prieur, Sr. (Laura), Lisa P. Lemaire (Jeff), and Mary Kay P. Robicheaux as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, 835 Melody Dr. in Metairie, LA. Visitation will be from 10:00 am -12:00 pm with a Funeral Mass to follow at noon. Burial will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
