Jose De La Cruz Ramirez, affectionately known as Pepe by all who knew him, passed away with his family by his side in Jefferson, LA on Sunday February 28, 2021. Born on September 25, 1945 in Managua Nicaragua, he is predeceased by his parents Jose De La Cruz Ramirez and Esmeralda Medrano, his loving wife Luisa Ramirez, grandmother Natalia Zelaya, and his aunts Anita and Marce Medrano. He is survived by his only son Milton Ramirez, his two granddaughters Luisa Ramirez and Alysia Ramirez, his sisters Tina Rodriguez and Angela Cuadra and several nieces and nephews. Pepe immigrated to the United States from Nicaragua searching for a better life and he fully embraced the ideals of individual freedom and self-reliance, the American Dream, hard work and perseverance. His unyielding work ethic allowed Pepe to provide for his family and achieve prosperity and success through hard work which culminated in his retirement from Sam’s wholesale Club in Kenner after 25 years of employment. A man who could never sit idle and someone who always felt a strong yearning to be a productive and contributing member to society, he stayed active and gainfully employed post-retirement with International Wholesale Club in Metairie where he continued to work until his last day on earth. Pepe’s passion for purpose through honest work was only surpassed by his love of God and family. He was fully devoted to his family who he loved more than anything in life. Pepe and his son shared an unbreakable bond, and his granddaughters were the apple of his eye who he loved immensely. Pepe was a formidable hero in the eyes of his family who carried everything on his shoulders to give them a happy home and a secure and bright future.
Pepe was known for his friendly and outgoing personality and as someone who never met a stranger who would talk to anyone that crossed paths with him. His life exemplified the humble virtues of kindness, decency, love, respect and family values. Pepe loved to eat soup, he enjoyed cumbia music, writing poetry, reading the bible, spending time with his family, eating crawfish, hot chile peppers— the hotter the better, and he would never turn down a cold Milwaukee’s Best! Pepe was extremely intelligent and an avid reader with a vast vocabulary who had a great deal of discernment, wisdom and an uncanny ability to provide sound advice to anyone looking for direction in life. He accepted Christ as his savior and lived a moral and upstanding life. His presence will be sorely missed for many years to come but his legacy, enduring spirit and inspirational example will live on forever.
