Joseph A. Dempsey

Joseph Anthony Dempsey passed away peacefully on Friday morning, December 11, 2015. He was 89 years old. Beloved husband of Melanie Giardina Dempsey of over 64 years. Loving father of Joseph M. Dempsey (Rae), Donald V. Dempsey, Cheryl A. Dempsey, Glen D. Dempsey (Terry), Sheila Dempsey Norris, and the late Markey R. Dempsey. Grandfather of Patrick Dempsey (Amanda), Ryan Dempsey, Erin D. Cariello (David), Jessica Dempsey, Kaitlin Dempsey, Megan D. Clements (Casey), David Dempsey, Lisa Dempsey, Kelly Dempsey, Jonathan Dempsey, Jason Norris, and Casey Norris. Great-grandfather of Tabor, Jack, Amma, Ambrose, Dylan, and Blaire. Brother of Gloria D. Cerny, and the late Mary “May” Dempsey, Martin Dempsey, Edward Dempsey, George Dempsey, and John “Jack” Dempsey. Son of the late Martin R. and Catherine Head Dempsey. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was a native and lifelong resident of the New Orleans area. He was a proud veteran of World War II (Pacific Front), serving his country in the United States Army, and was a past member of VFW. He was employed by SONOCO for over 40 years. He was a skilled craftsman and handyman, who enjoyed using his talents assisting numerous friends and family members with various projects. Joe will be greatly missed by all. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial from ST. CHARLES BORROMEO, 13396 River Road, Destrehan, on Tuesday morning, December 15, 2015 at 11:00. Visitation will begin at 9:00 in church. Interment will follow in the adjoining St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery.
