Joseph Harry Gerdes Sr.

Joseph Harry Gerdes, Sr. passed to his heavenly home on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the age of 92. Beloved husband of Ida Lee Miller Gerdes for 68 years. Father of Joseph Harry Gerdes, Jr. and the late David Julius Gerdes . Also survived by four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: John Detrich Gerdes and Therisa Noveh Gerdes; three brothers: John Gerdes, Jimmy Gerdes and Henry Gerdes and two sisters: May and Elvina Gerdes. Mr. Gerdes worked as a carpenter and roofer. He was born in New Orleans and was a longtime resident of Metairie where he attended Metairie Baptist Church for 69 years.

A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at GARDEN OF MEMORIES FUNERAL HOME, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until funeral time. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
