Joseph R. Markezich

Joseph R. Markezich, 61 years young, was born on October 24, 1963, and fulfilled his earthly life on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Joe was the beloved son of Gloria Alford Markezich and the late George Z. Markezich Sr. He was the brother of Larry, Nicholas, George, Anthony, and Samuel Markezich and Michael Scarborough in addition to a proud uncle who cherished his 14 nieces and nephews: Anna, Carl, Carla, George, Isreal, Katie, Karrie, Lawrence, Logan, Lucas, Madeline, Meghan, Shane, and Timothy, as well as his numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Joe was born and raised in the Westgate subdivision of Metairie where he lived with his brother George and where he and five of his siblings grew up. He enjoyed being on the water, from trawling for shrimp to catching fish, crabs, and crawfish, even alligators. Joe enjoyed his days off on the water, often in Lake Pontchartrain. By nightfall you could catch him at a local pool hall, shooting a game of pool with family and friends. Joe found joy in the simple pleasures of life, spending time with those he loved. His presence and never-quit energy will be deeply missed by his family and by all who knew him. Rest in Peace Joe!

The Markezich family plans to hold a celebration of life at a later time to honor Joe’s memory.
