

Joyce Soniat du Fossat Phillpott entered into eternal rest on March 17th, 2010. Preceded in death were her devoted husband James Stephen Phillpott, parents Flora Bordelon and Peter Guy Soniat du Fossat Sr. Surrounding Joyce during her preparation for heaven were her eight children, Joyce Marie P. Boudreaux, Jeanne P. Qualey, Hon. Janet Ann Phillpott, James Frances Phillpott, Michael John Phillpott, Judy P. O’Connell, Hon. Patrick Thomas Phillpott, and Matthew Peter Phillpott. Mrs. Joyce is also survived by three daughter-in-laws and a son-in-law, fourteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one brother, numerous nieces and nephews, and loving “Chosen” children of all ages who wanted to be part of action.
Mrs. Joyce, a New Orleans native also lived throughout Southwest Louisiana, Tennessee, and New Mexico. A graduate of Sacred Heart of Jesus High School (1944) then attended Ursuline College of New Orleans (1944-46) and then obtained her degree from McNeese University of Lake Charles, La. (1983).
After the passing of her husband (1963) Mrs. Joyce was employed as an accountant and later an Office Manager of Surveys Incorporated of Metairie La., and a Licensed Real Estate Broker for Falcon Enterprises. After her children were grown, Mrs. Joyce changed careers to become a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (1984) in Louisiana, Tennessee, New Mexico and Ombudsman for the Office of Lt. Governor of Louisiana (Advocate for the Elderly Affairs), and served as Commissioner-in Charge of Elections Precinct 70, for the Parish of Jefferson, and also preformed the duties of an Louisiana Notary Public (1984). Mrs. Joyce was an active member along with her children of numerous Political Organizations and successful Municipal, Parochial, State and National Election Campaigns; and participated in State and Local Genealogy Societies.
Family, Friends, Members of the New Orleans Spring Fiesta, Women’s Republican Club of New Orleans, Metairie Manor Guild, AARP Members and Residents are invited to a Viewing at 11 O’clock, Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 12:30 pm and a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at One O’clock on the Afternoon on Saturday, March 20th, 2010 at Leitz Eagan Funeral Home (4747 Veterans Highway, Metairie, La.) Private interment will be in Buckley-Phillpott tomb in St. Patrick’s No. 1 Cemetery, New Orleans at a later date.
