On April 8, 1939, Kelly Jones Jr. was the first born to the union of the late Kelly Jones Sr. and Albertine Dapmore Jones in New Orleans, Louisiana. He departed this life and entered into eternal rest on February 9, 2022. He grew up with 3 brothers and 5 sisters. He was the godson of Mr. and Mrs. Collins. He was the godfather of Darnester Hall Nora. He accepted Christ as his personal savior, was baptized at an early age and was a lifelong member of First Zion Baptist Church. His favorite biblical scripture was Psalms 23 and his favorite hymn was “Just a Closer Walk with Thee”.
Kelly received his initial education at John H. Martyn. He later pursued and obtained his high school equivalent G.E.D.
He met and married Sylvia Blazio and from this union, 3 children were born: Gail Jones, Kevin Jones, and Edgar Jones. He later married Joyce Jones and became a stepfather to Michelle Walker.
He worked several jobs throughout the years. He was employed by Jefferson Parish Sanitation Department as a refuse collector and cement worker for 10 years. He then worked for Furlow Laughlin Tractor Company in Shipping and Receiving for 20 years, followed by employment as a substitute bus driver for the Jefferson Parish School Board. His last employment was as an owner/operator taxi cab driver.
In his late teens, he picked up a saxophone and the rest was history. He formed a band with some local fellas called, "Kelly Jones and the LBJ's". He later went on to play with more prominent bands and artists. He was also a professional disc jockey for over two decades and played around the surrounding New Orleans and Jefferson areas. In 1977, he founded Justice Recording Studio in Kenner, LA, where he was the President & Owner. In 1979, which was the prime of his musical career, he wrote and produced his own records titled Cisco and Tell Me, Tell Me. However, the highlight of his musical endeavors was playing the saxophone at his home church First Zion B.C.
His greatest passion was praying for anyone he came in contact with. Kelly also had a practice of just showing up at your house unannounced and begin blessing every room with holy water believing it would make it a home of peace and a home of prayer by protecting it from all hurt, harm and danger.
He was a member of the Young Men’s Protective League Union Benevolent Association in Jefferson, LA (Shrewsbury) for many years.
Kelly is preceded in death by his parents, Kelly Sr. and Albertine Jones, his son, Kevin Jones, and two brothers, Roy Lee Jones and Gilbert Jones.
