

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ilean Di Grado Carrington; his daughter, Terrie Laird (Ronald); his son, Leon Carrington (James Frey); special daughter, Estelle Palmisano (Wayne); special grandson, Nicolas Palmisano (Caritas) and special great-grandchildren, Isabella and Luca Palmisano. He is also survived by his brother, Tommy Carrington and his sisters, Anna Smith and Betty Trosclair as well as many nieces and nephews.
Leon was the eldest of nine children of the late Leon Ewing Carrington, Sr. of Franklin, Texas and Genevieve Veronica Feely of New Orleans, LA. He was the grandson of the late Samuel Ewing Carrington and Ella Mae McLendon and James Wilfred Feely and Anna Margaret Powell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: James, Cleveland and Roger Carrington and his sisters, Genevieve Cole and Ella Rufin and special granddaughter, Mardee Palmisano.
Leon (Jug) served in the United States Army from 1937 to 1939. He joined the Louisiana State Police in 1941 and retired as Lieutenant. In 2000, he joined the newly formed Louisiana State Police Reserve and assisted in the office of Troop B every Friday. Leon had been a Mason for more than 48 years and served as Worshipful Master of Linn Wood-Ionic Lodge #167 F&AM in 1986 and 2001. He was Monarch of the Farhad Grotto in Harahan, LA and the Ka Jon Grotto in Houma, LA. He had been a member of Jerusalem Shriners for more than 47 years. He was a member of several Shrine units and clubs and served as President of the Past Masters Club. He was also the People’s Health Champion in 2007.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers, many associated with the Des Allemands Mennonite Church, who assisted with his devoted and loving care. The family also greatly appreciates the excellent caregiving provided by River Region Hospice.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 3:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at a later date in St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum in Destrehan, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to a charity of your choice.
