

Born in New Orleans on August 24, 1919, Loretta Conners Gernon went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, January 29, 2013. Loretta lived almost all her life in New Orleans and Metairie, and recently resided in Katy, Texas. She cherished her children and family, and was known for her generosity and kindness to loved ones and strangers alike. She was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith, and took great pleasure in volunteering for the Plant Booth at St. Anthony of Padua’s annual school fair, for long after her children had graduated. She loved her job as head telephone operator at Godchaux’s downtown department store, where she worked from 1966 until her retirement in 1979.
She is pre-deceased by husband George O. Gernon, Sr., her parents Leo and Virginia Conners, her brother Tom Conners, and sister Josette Conners Walker. She is survived by daughter Loretta Gernon Bevon (Frank) of Santa Barbara, California, son George O. Gernon (Vilma) of Katy, Texas, grandchildren Marco Gernon (Jeanne) of Bourg, Louisiana and Adrianna Gernon Eschete (Guido), of Houma, Louisiana, three great granddaughters Jeanne-Morgan and Elizabeth Gernon and Gianna Eschete, sister Mary James (Robert) and beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services include a Celebration of Loretta's Life on Thursday, February 7, from 6-9 pm at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd in Metairie and Mass at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, 901 Beverly Garden Drive, Metairie, on Friday, February 8, at 1:00 pm.
