

Lorraine S. Coppock, Age 94, a resident of Metairie, LA and a native of Chicago, IL entered into eternal rest and into the arms of her Heavenly Father and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at 12:30 pm on Thursday, January 9, 2014. Lorraine was born on May 22, 1919 in Chicago and was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Henry “Hank” Coppock, her mother Caroline Sablotny, her father Joseph Sablotny and her sister, Arlene Sablotny. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Coppock Austin and her husband Ken, her son Curt Coppock and his wife Sonia, her son Craig Coppock and his wife Theresa as well as by her six grandchildren – Shane Johnson and his wife Tara, Carter Johnson and his wife Suzy, Scott Austin and his wife Shannon, Kristy Coppock Donaldson and her husband Jeff, Cari Coppock Caramonta and her husband Zac and Kaycie Coppock. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren. Before graduating from Fenger High School in Chicago in 1937, Lorraine was the President of the Debate Team and was the school’s first Drum Majorette. She was the first Drum Majorette to ever lead a band of any type onto the field at Chicago’s Soldier Field. Lorraine was a child in the Roaring Twenties and a teenager during the Great Depression. She married Hank, the love of her life on October 18, 1942, and she went to work while he went to Holland, France and Germany to fight World War II. When the war was over and Hank returned, Lorraine and Hank began to raise their family – first in Chicago, then in New York City, back to Chicago and finally in 1959 they relocated to Metairie, LA where Lorraine was a loving wife, mother, homemaker and faithful servant of St. Matthews United Methodist Church until the day she died. Lorraine was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star both in Chicago and in New Orleans. For a time she was a substitute teacher and later she worked for Dixie Homestead. Relatives, friends and members of the St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church are invited to attend the Memorial Services and celebration of her life on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, 6017 Camphor St., Metairie, LA with visitation at 1:00 pm, and Church Services at 2:00 pm. After the service please join the family in the Great Hall for refreshments and an opportunity to visit with family and friends.
