Lucille now goes forward to be reunited with her beloved husband, Renan P. Esquivel Sr., as well as her mother, Lucille M Stabinsky; father, Myer M Stabinsky and brother and two sisters who preceded her in death. While her family takes comfort in knowing she is once again with those she loved and missed, her absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled.
Lucille is survived by her two children, Karen Esquivel Mattingly (Jimmie) and Renan (Rennie) Esquivel Jr. (Kelly); her grandchildren, Michael Mattingly (Melissa), Kellie Mattingly Smith (Jonathan), Nicole Mattingly, Brandon Mattingly, Jessica Esquivel Fleming (Matt), and Matthew Esquivel (Jo); and her beloved great-grandchildren, Maxwell “Max” and Miles Mattingly, Averie, Camden and Alexandra Smith, Madison and Mason Mattingly, and Robert (Tripp) Fleming. She is also survived by many loving great-nieces and great-nephews, a sister along with extended family and friends who were blessed to know and love her.
Lucille lived a remarkable life and proudly served as a Secretary for the Chief of Staff of United States Naval Reserve in New Orleans where there she retired from. Yet, of all the roles she held throughout her life, none meant more to her than being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was her greatest accomplishment, her greatest joy, and the center of her world.
Ma loved deeply and generously. She was the kind of person who would do anything for the people she loved, and her family always knew they could count on her. She was a wonderful homemaker “ baker”, loved to shop, and always enjoyed having her hair and nails done. She had a way of making ordinary moments feel special simply because she was there.
Some of the family’s most treasured memories were made around her table and through the many traditions she created and lovingly carried on throughout the years. Those traditions will continue through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, keeping a piece of Ma present at every family gathering.
And, of course, there was the question everyone in the family knew so well: “Who wants cake?”
Those simple words will forever bring smiles, laughter, and memories of Ma. They represent so much of who she was—the warmth of her home, her love of baking, the joy she found in gathering her family together, and the happiness she received from taking care of the people she loved. “Who wants cake?” will continue to be said for generations, ensuring that one of Ma’s sweetest traditions lives on.
To know Ma was to know love, and to be loved by her was one of life’s greatest gifts. She was the heart of her family, and the love, traditions, memories, and lessons she gave them will continue long after her passing.
The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice “Megan and Hannah”. We would also like to thank Kendra Calamari and her staff at Agape Home Care for the Excellent care she received.
Her family will miss her more than words could ever express!
