The lovely Mable Henrietta Jones was born in New Orleans, LA on October 22, 1945 to the late Henry Jones, Sr. and Marion Carter Jones. She was the wife of the late Ernest Truman Lathers. As a young child, Mable’s parents relocated their family to Metairie, LA. It was there that she began to establish roots in the community, attend church, acquire friends, and of course, she truly enjoyed developing relationships with all of her siblings. She was educated in the Jefferson Parish School System.
As a young adult, Mable was employed by the Archdiocese of New Orleans. She really enjoyed and was very comfortable with her assignment in the rectory of St. Catherine of Sienna. She became acquainted with several pastors, many priests, and co-workers. After 35 years of employment there, she decided to move in another direction and retire.
In the 1970s, Mable and Ernest purchased their first home in Kenner, LA. It was there that they raised their family. They eventually purchased homes and properties in Destrehan, Independence, and Montz, LA. Everywhere she resided, she established herself in the community, served various leadership roles in the church, and gained additional friends. Mable had many interests and hobbies. Some of them were gardening (flowers), creative cooking, playing games, traveling, laughing, joking, and engaging in meaningful conversation. In addition, she loved contributing to charitable organizations. “Giving” was a way of life for Mable. It brought her tremendous joy!
Mable was a devoted “Mother” to 3 children: Marion Annette, Lloyd Henry Maney, Jr., and Malissa Allen (Daren).
Mable was a proud and loving “Grandmother” of 5: Angel Johnson (Lawrence), D’Lisa Lewis (Rico), Malon Allen, Daren Allen, II and Mychael Jackson. She adored her 3 great-grandchildren: Larian Johnson, Jyles Johnson, and Riyah Lewis.
She also leaves to cherish her memories: (her mother/the matriarch of the family) Marion Carter Jones; (3 sisters) Eula Mae Jones, Marilyn Jones James (Lawrence), and Merrial Jones, (4 brothers) Henry Jones, Jr. (Mary), Eugene Jones, Sr. (Carol), Jeffery Jones (Lisa), and Michael Jones (Ann); (5 sisters in law) Berneice Ellsworth (Phillip), Aselee Jones (Howard), Bernadine Donald (Curtis), Martha Davis, and Leona Williams; (3 brothers in law) Sam Lathers, Sr., Harlan Lathers, Sr. (Doris), and Herman Lathers, Sr. (Charlotte). She was also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest T. Lathers; her maternal grandparents, Jimmie Carter and Mable Davis Mason; her paternal grandparents, Thomas Jones and Bertha Nelson Jones; her father, Henry Jones, Sr.; and two brothers, Donald A. Jones and Christopher I. Jones.
Mable Henrietta Jones Lathers was the epitome of love, kindness, gentleness, strength and character. She departed this life and transitioned into eternity on March 28, 2014. What a glorious day!
