Madge Millicent Smith Borne

Madge Smith Borne, 74 of Kenner, LA passed away on December 21st 2022 at her home from a heart attack, she was surrounded by her family and was loved deeply. She was born February 28, 1948 in Mid City to Charles Smith and Doris Smith Durmeyer, and she later went on to marry Robert Borne after they met in college. They just celebrated 54 years of marriage this year, and have spent most of their life together in Metairie and Kenner.

Madge attended LSU and received a degree in Education. She used her degree to start her career as a teacher and taught for 25 years. Madge was a passionate teacher who tended to go the extra mile for the sake of her students. This approach to education led to many accolades such as induction into the LA 4-H Hall of Fame as well as receiving Teacher of the Year in Jefferson Parish. Her last 16 years of teaching were spent at Audubon Elementary in Kenner teaching 5th grade.

In the middle of her career Madge took a break from teaching in order to devote more time to her family including her husband and 2 children who she loved very much. Madge loved to laugh and never missed a chance to share that joy with others. Madge’s interest included gardening, cheering on her LSU tigers and spending time with friends. She was always supportive of friends and family and would often go above and beyond to help and show love to those around her. Madge was a devout Christian and was an active member of the St. Matthews Methodist Church in Metairie.

She is survived by her husband Robert Borne, her two sons Darin and Scott as well as her grandchildren Clara Jane, Millie and George.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to St. Jude Medical Center.

Memorial services will be at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., in Metairie on Thursday December 29th, 2022. Visitation will start at 9am with a memorial service to follow at 11am.
