Manuel R. Perez, age 90, a resident of Kenner, LA, for 50 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, July 27, 2018. He was born in Remedios, Cuba. Manuel retired from the Whitney Bank after over 25 years of service. He was a parishioner of St. Lawrence the Martyr and St. Jerome Parish for many years. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Margarita Cazabon Perez. He was a devoted father and is survived by daughters: Martha Stewart (Bill) of Richmond, TX, Ana Perkins (Danny) of Destrehan, LA, Paula Duplantis (Mark) of Destrehan, LA, and Margarita M. Perez of Lafayette, LA. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Shawna Perkins, Jeffrey Stewart, Jennifer Stewart, Andrew Duplantis, and Paul Duplantis. He is also survived by his godchildren: Raul Garcia, Adriana Kriesen, and Maria Arazoza. He is preceded in death by his parents, Pastora Penton Perez and Manuel F. Perez, and his siblings: Esther Perez Garcia, Gladys Perez Gutierrez, Sila Perez Alonso, Eva Perez Gonzales, and Gregorio Modesto Perez. He is survived by many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was a loyal friend to many. He will be missed by all who knew him. He enjoyed walking for exercise and dancing the night away with his beloved wife.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Catholic Memorial Mass at St. Jerome Church, 2402 33rd Street, Kenner, LA 70065 on August 6, 2018 at 11:00am. Visitation will begin at 9:30am. A private burial will follow at St. Patrick #1 Cemetery.
The family would like to extend our appreciation and gratitude for the staff of Lakeside Hospice. In particular, we are grateful for the compassion and care provided by caretaker Melvin McGee. We would also like to acknowledge the support and assistance of Margarita Matute and Yunisy Paz during his long illness.
