Margaret Hoffmann Giovengo, age 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at her home in Metairie, Louisiana. Born on January 24, 1940, in New Orleans, Margaret was a lifelong resident of the Greater New Orleans area. She graduated from Redemptorist High School and carried the values of faith, family, and resilience throughout her life.
Margaret lived for and believed in family. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Margaret Ann Kotar. Her love and warmth extended to her grandchildren, Lauren Kotar Hinojosa and her husband Jeffrey Hinojosa, and Christopher Kotar and his wife, Hillari A. Kotar and to her great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Harrison Kotar. Margaret is also survived by her brother, Joey Hoffmann, and his wife, Fern. She was a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews and even more great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elroy Giovengo, Sr.; her son-in-law Doug Kotar; brothers, Charles Hoffmann (his wife Ellen), Jerry Hoffmann (his wife Joy), Raymond Hoffmann (his wife Margaret), and her sister, Mary Ann Hoffmann Mistretta (her husband Sal).
Margaret lived with an uplifting spirit which touched everyone she met. Her strength shone through in every chapter of her life — from raising a loving family, embracing new adventures with enthusiasm, and fighting breast cancer for 13 years with grace and dignity. She was a member of the Golden Age club and practiced yoga until the age of 84.
Her love for travel reflected her adventurous heart and zest for life. Whether exploring near or far, Margaret found joy in discovering new places and connecting with others along the way. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. May her memory bring inspiration and joy to those who knew and loved her.
