Mary Hickox Burchardt

BURCHARDT Mary Hickox Burchardt, the beloved wife of Henry A. Burchardt for 68 years, died on Monday, August 13, 2012 at the age of 88. She was the loving mother of Ronald J. Burchardt (Rita) of Destrehan, Louisiana and the late Raymond H. Burchardt. Grandmother of Melissa Burchardt, Kristen Burchardt Barney (Kevin), Jason Burchardt (Amanda) of Nashville, Tennessee and Scot Burchardt of Destrehan, LA. Great grandmother of Shianne, Jordan and Jayden Burchardt and Mason and Connor Barney. Mary was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and was the daughter of the late Raymond Hickox and Mary Farris Hickox. Sister of Catherine Hickox Rundle of Sedona, Arizona and the late Ray Hickox Couvillion. Mrs. Burchardt was a Mercy Alumnae (class of 1942). She was a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Destrehan, Louisiana and a former member of the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. She was the founding President of the Nifty Fifties Plus Senior Ministry, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 366, former President of AARP Chapter 3757 of LaPlace, Louisiana, a participant in the St. Charles Parish Retired Senior Volunteer Program and a retired 4th grade teacher at St. Rita's of Harahan and St. Matthew the Apostle Elementary School of River Ridge. Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who leaves behind beautiful memories and will be missed by all. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Persich and the nurses and staff of Canon Hospice for their devoted care of Mrs. Burchardt. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 17, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary's honor to Canon Hospice, 1221 S. Clearview Pkwy., Jefferson, LA 70121.
