Mary Magdalin Mendoza Gremillion entered into eternal rest the evening of June 16, 2018. Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Charles J. Gremillion. She is survived by her 3 children: Trisha Gremillion Schexnaydre (her husband David and their children Jolie and Mia), Lance Gremillion (his wife Susan and their children Isabelle and Abigail), and Gregg Gremillion (his wife Valerie and their children Mason and Cameron).
She is the daughter of the late Eduardo and Leonor Mendoza. Mary is the beloved sister of the late Edward Mendoza (Sandra), Raphael Ruffino (Vic), Alfred Mendoza, the late Richard Mendoza, Sandra Lapworth (John), and David Mendoza. She will be dearly missed by her nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers, neighbors and many close friends, including her best friend, Jackie Page.
Mary was 72 years old and a resident of Metairie, Louisiana. She was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, who attended F.T. Nicholls High School. She loved Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s Day, her Red Hat ladies, Dinner-and-a-Movie friends, Birthday Group, Bible study, and her Chicken-Foot group. She loved to travel with her friends and family including many trips all over the U.S., Europe, the Beau Rivage with her sisters, cruises, Florida beach trips, and especially her last train ride to visit Gregg’s family in Naperville! Mary was so creative and loved crafts, upholstery, cake decorating, decorating her home, and her many sewing projects.
She was a devoted mom and wife, and had a fulfilling family life. She was married to the Love of Her Life, Charlie, for 53 years. Together they raised their family and created a beautiful home where everyone was welcomed.
She raised her three children, watch them graduate, marry, have their own children and become happy adults. She was the kind of mom that hand-sewed Trisha’s wedding dress, was the Den Mother for Gregg’s Boy Scouts, and would cheer Lance on at Girard playground for countless hours.
She greatly enjoyed spending time with her 6 grandchildren, attending many dance recitals, cheer competitions, grandparent’s days, sports, fun days in the park, and many vacations together.
Mary truly loved life and always wanted to be on the go! She was a special person that touched everyone she met. She always put others first, even in her last days. Simply put, if you knew Mary, you loved Mary.
The family would like to sincerely thank Mary’s multiple doctors, nurses, hospital staff, PTs, OTs, The Sister Servants of Mary, caregivers, Canon Hospice, and especially Paquita Hardin and Hunter Harris, for their tireless support and loving care throughout this journey that Mary has been on.
The family welcomes relatives and friends to attend Mary’s Celebration of Life on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 5pm followed by a service at 7pm. The family invites you to share your thoughts, fond memories, pictures, and condolences online at www.leitzeaganfuneralhome.com.
