

Melvin Michael Pechon, a retired Certified Public Accountant, died at the age of 89 on October 2, 2023. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on December 2, 1933, and was a resident of Metairie, Louisiana from 1964 through 2004 and a resident of Kenner, Louisiana since 2004. He is predeceased by his father Emile Ernest Pechon, mother Adele Martinez Pechon, brother Ernest E. Pechon, and sister Mildred Pechon Bernard. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dorothy Milazzo Pechon, sons Michael M. Pechon and Paul V. Pechon and daughter Catherine Pechon Nerin, son-in-law Eddy Nerin and daughter-in-law Marie Levy Pechon, grandchildren Sean Patrick Ayers, Ashley Nerin Varisco, Bailey Alexis Pechon, Alexis Pechon Vinsanau, Brady Michael Pechon, Colby Marie Pechon, great-grandchildren, Mason Ayers, Cameryn Ayers, Addison Ayers, Grayson Varisco and Kylie Varisco. He attended St. Henry’s Elementary School, St. Aloysius High School, and received a Bachelor of Science degree and Master’s degree in Accounting from Louisiana State University. He served in the United States Army and attained the rank of First Lieutenant. He joined the CPA firm of Haskins and Sells and then joined the CPA firm of Robert and Favolora where he became a partner. The firm became Pechon and Messina and eventually Pechon & Pechon. He was a practicing CPA for over 60 years. He taught income tax courses as an adjunct professor at Tulane University for 20 years. He served as President of the New Orleans Chapter of the Society of CPAs, President of the Society of Louisiana CPAs (LCPA), and served on several committees of the LCPA. He was appointed by then-Governor Edwin Edwards to the State Board of CPAs. He was a member of the National Association of Accountants. Mel served on the Board of Directors of Crimestoppers for 20 years and was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the LCPA. Mel enjoyed playing golf with friends and family and was a member of Chateau Country Club. He enjoyed watching his LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints play football, but most of all he loved spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Private services and a mass will be held at Leitz Eagan on October 6, 2023, for his immediate family.
