Myriam Lopez

Myriam Lopez, of New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was a native of Matagalpa, Nicaragua and born on December 27, 1932, to Adolfo and Candida Lopez.

We will never the know the whirlwind of thoughts that was swirling in Myriams mind as she landed in New Orleans, as a teenager, in the early 1950’s. Let us think for a moment and just imagine the backdrop of the quaint town of Matagalpa, Nicaragua then in the next frame you are landing in a world embracing jazz, Mardi Gras and beignets. Her mind raced in endless directions about this new world, yet she never lost sight of what was important to her, and that was her family.

One of Myriams proudest moments was when she became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America. She felt strongly about her family and public service and as an American citizen, it was important for her to give back to society by entering the workforce.

In the early 1980’s her personal charity and family dedication was unexpectedly called into action upon the death of her mother Candida Lopez. Myriam is survived by her sister Imelda Ward and her brother, Paulino Lopez, both of New Orleans. She is also survived by the memory of her late sisters Candida Lacombe, Maria Lopez and Dora Fernandez and her brother Adolfo Lopez. Her wonderful spirit will be celebrated on January 29, 2026 at the Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, located at 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA 70006, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will follow at the same location from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

A very special thank you goes out to the entire staff of the Covenant Nursing Home. It was their special and unselfish care that allowed Myriam to live her remaining years with peace and dignity.

Nuestra querida Myriam López partió en paz el jueves 15 de enero de 2026 en Nueva Orleans, Luisiana. Originaria de Matagalpa, Nicaragua, nació el 27 de diciembre de 1932, hija de Adolfo y Cándida López. Su vida fue un ejemplo de fortaleza, amor y dignidad, y su recuerdo permanecerá siempre en nuestros corazones.

Nunca sabremos realmente el torbellino de pensamientos que pasaron por la mente de Myriam cuando llegó por primera vez a Nueva Orleans, siendo apenas una adolescente, a principios de los años cincuenta. Imaginemos por un momento el paisaje tranquilo y pintoresco de su natal Matagalpa, Nicaragua y, de un instante a otro, encontrarse en una ciudad vibrante, llena de jazz, Mardi Gras y beignets. Su mente debió correr en mil direcciones ante aquel nuevo mundo que se abría frente a ella, pero aun así nunca perdió de vista lo que más valoraba: su familia. Ese lazo, siempre firme, fue su guía en cada paso de su vida. Uno de los momentos de mayor orgullo para Myriam fue el día en que se naturalizó como ciudadana de los Estados Unidos. Tenía un profundo sentido de responsabilidad hacia su familia y hacia el servicio a los demás, y convertirse en ciudadana significó para ella la oportunidad de retribuir a la sociedad integrándose al mundo laboral.

A principios de los años ochenta, su espíritu de entrega y su amor familiar se pusieron a prueba de una manera inesperada con el fallecimiento de su madre, Cándida López. Fue entonces cuando la vida de Myriam dio un giro definitivo: asumió, con gran valentía y sin dudarlo, el papel de tutora y cuidadora única de su hermana con discapacidad, María Ligia López. Myriam deja en vida a su hermana Imelda Ward y a su hermano Paulino López, ambos residentes de Nueva Orleans. También honra la memoria de sus hermanas fallecidas —Candida Lacombe, María López y Dora Fernández— así como la de su hermano Adolfo López. Su espíritu noble y generoso será celebrado el 29 de enero de 2026 en la funeraria Leitz‑Eagan, ubicada en 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA 70006, de 11:00 a 13:00 horas.

Posteriormente, se llevará a cabo una misa funeral en el mismo lugar, de 13:00 a 14:00 horas.

La familia desea expresar un agradecimiento muy especial a todo el personal de la residencia Covenant. Su atención dedicada, compasiva y desinteresada permitió que Myriam viviera sus últimos años con la paz y la dignidad que merecía.
