

Nicholas Andrew Kleamenakis, Sr., age 97, fell asleep in the Lord on October 10, 2025. Nick was born on February 28, 1928, in New Orleans, LA to Andrew Peter Kleamenakis and Jasame Gregoriou Kleamenakis, who settled here from Greece to start their family. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Angela Pembo and Despina Cockinos; and brother Andrew Kleamenakis. Nick is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Argie Catsulis Kleamenakis; children, Dr. Michael Nicholas Kleamenakis (Susan Chaix Kleamenakis), Nicholas Andrew Kleamenakis, Jr. and daughter Andrea Kleamenakis Munch (Joseph Martin Munch). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael Kleamenakis, Jr. (Lauren), John Kleamenakis (Breanne), Matthew Kleamenakis (Candace), Stephen Kleamenakis (Rachel), Amanda Munch (Jack Romano), and Jenna Munch. Nick is also survived by his great grandchildren, Luke, Rose, Aubrie, Yanni, Austyn, Leo, and Costa; sisters in law, Carrie Gautreau and Stella Pearson; and brother-in-law, Tom Pearson. He leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. “Papou” loved his grandchildren and was immensely proud of his family.
Nick grew up in the New Orleans uptown area and attended Warren Easton High School. After graduating in 1945, at 17 years old, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy proudly and honorably serving in WWII and the Korean War. After his military service, he pursued higher education at Delgado Community College and Tulane University. A highly skilled tradesman, Nick became a certified steamfitter in the maritime industry and dedicated 43 years working for Dixie Machine & Welding Company as Superintendent of the Pipefitting Department. Nick was a lifetime member of the United Association of Journeyman and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting industry of the United States and was also a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Nick was talented in carpentry, woodworking and had an exceptional ability to repair or build nearly anything! He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and always had multiple boats throughout his life. He loved fishing trips, being on the water, and sharing those moments with family and friends. Nick was an active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral where he was involved in the American Hellenic Education Progressive Association (AHEPA) and spent numerous years working the “Greek Grill” at our annual Greek Festival. He was very proud of his Greek Hellenic Heritage; loved his church and considered it a duty to honor and respect his family name. He was an amazing man who loved his family, faith, and country. Nick lived and embodied an exceptional work ethic, moral strength, and integrity. These values guided him throughout his life and reflected the virtues of the Greatest Generation to which he proudly belonged. Nick has left behind a wonderful legacy, and we will continue to honor him proudly. May his memory be eternal!
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1200 Allen Toussaint Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be held at the cathedral from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Interment with U.S. Navy Honors will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
Following the burial ceremony, a Makaria(repass) will be held at the Hellenic Center.
