Olga Margarita Castro, 83, a long-time resident of the New Orleans area, painlessly slipped her earthly bounds on February 11, 2022, at home, with her son by her side, after battling Parkinson’s Disease and a brief illness.
Ms. Olga was born March 29, 1938, in Santa Rosa De Copán, Honduras Centro América to Miguel Angel, Zerón and Angela Aguilar. She married the love of her life Guillermo Castro December 26, 1964, of Yoro Honduras, Centro América, here in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Ms. Olga began a nursing technical training program in the mid 1950’s in Honduras. With a desire to help provide for her parents and siblings she decided to leave Honduras and head towards a brighter future here in the Crescent City in 1962 at the age of 24. In a career shift, with coming to U.S. Olga was sponsored as a housekeeper by Mr. & Mrs. N. Charles Wicker, locally famous Times Picayune sportswriter, where she honed her amazing cooking skills. Olga went on to work for Wembley Tie Factory and finally United China. She also made time to have and raise a son during this time with her husband and enjoy a full but sometimes difficult life. Later in life she became a full-time caretaker for her husband who was suffering from Parkinson’s Disease and cared for him tirelessly with love and compassion until his final day. Olga was always a nurturing caregiver to the people she loved by the council she gave to them, the amazing meals she cooked to feed them or how she taught them to be a caring compassionate human being in leading by example. Olga was, as they say, a rare breed of woman she will be truly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
Ms. Olga is preceded in death by her loving husband Guillermo Castro, her parents Miguel and Angela. She is also preceded in death by her sister Gladis Ondina Aguilar, brothers Roberto Zerón Aguilar, Alfredo Zerón Aguilar, Oscar Arnulfo Zerón and René Zerón Aguilar.
She is survived by her son, Douglas; her step granddaughter, Karla and 2 step great grand- children, her sister Rosario Zerón Aguilar, and brother Noe Zerón Aguilar, many nieces and nephews all of whom live in the U.S. and Central America. Olga also had an extended family who chose her and whom she chose to love and council as her own whom have brought her immense happiness over the years.
