Paul Joseph “Bubba” Boeckl, age 55, departed from this life on August 1, 2021 with his devoted wife, Sandy, and loving daughter, Hailey, at his side. He is preceded in death by his parents Hubert Emile and Dolores Vega Boeckl, two siblings, Douglas Prendergast and Trudy Warren, and his nephew Larry Warren, II.
In addition to his wife and daughter, Paul is survived by siblings Debbie Swan, Pat Prendergast, III (Karen), Frank Boeckl (Laura), Denise Hubbard (Charles), and Melissa Schehr (Kevin). He is also the beloved son-in-law of Barbara Sauer and the late Jerome Sauer, as well as brother-in-law to Donna Carver, Stephen Sauer, Connie Rigdon (Harold), and Sheri McLemore (Charlie). In addition to a host of nephews, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins throughout the country, Paul is survived by his numerous close Ninth Ward childhood friends and countless others who were blessed to be enfolded by his generous and gregarious embrace.
Paul was born in New Orleans on March 8, 1966. He attended Sts. Peter and Paul School and St. John Vianney Prep High School. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Paul married Sandy Sauer on November 4, 1994 and together they enjoyed 27 wonderful years of marriage. He was deeply devoted to their daughter, Hailey (Bug), relishing with her late night breakfasts, father-daughter dances, and their annual Christmas cookie bake.
Paul never ever met a stranger. His enthusiasm and positivity were as resounding as his voice. He lived life to the full, never giving anything less than 150%. Paul lived to tailgate and loved nothing more than to gather friends and family around his grill or crawfish pot. He was the undisputed grill master at Direct Parts and Service, where his colleagues became friends over his 20 years of employment there. He was an active parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Parish and retires as the undefeated champion of the annual St. Joan of Arc Spring Fair Cookoff.
Visitation will be at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., in Metairie, LA on Friday, August 6, beginning at 9:30 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 1:00 PM in Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home’s chapel. All visitors are kindly asked to wear masks.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana are encouraged (8200 Hampson St., Suite 425, New Orleans 70118). The family would like to express their profound gratitude to the Ochsner transplant team for 20 years of exceptional support and to the staff of the Ochsner ICU, who took such good care of Paul during his last days.
May he rest in peace and may perpetual light shine upon him.
