Peggy Hall Boone Allen, 78, passed away on May 22, 2026. Born on July 1, 1947, in Charlottesville, Virginia, she forged a life marked by hard work, integrity, and an unfailing opinionated curiosity about the world. A graduate of Queens College, Peggy began her professional journey in arenas where few women were represented at the time. She worked in the demanding fields of politics, shipping, and engineering, earning the respect of colleagues with her poise, diligence, and sharp mind. After having her second child and getting both her children started in school, Peggy later found her second calling in the classroom. Over decades as a middle school and ESL high school teacher, she inspired countless students, many new to this country, with her high standards, warmth, and belief in their potential. She also mentored and befriended many new teachers, offering practical guidance, steady encouragement, and a second home away from home. Her influence endures in the lives of those she taught and the educators she helped to shape. Adventurous at heart, Peggy found joy in travel and the simple wonders of the beach, where she loved gathering with family and friends. She was an avid reader—of books, history, and current events—who approached each day with a learner’s spirit. Her family and all who knew her will remember her steady example, sharp wit, and the way she encouraged others to explore widely and to not accept second best. Peggy is survived by her children, Elizabeth and Kenneth, and two cherished grandchildren. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered. A memorial service celebrating Peggy’s life will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church in New Orleans. Family and friends are invited to gather in gratitude for her life and time spent together.
