Our dear Peggy Mooney Ripple passed into the arms of our Lord on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at the age of 89 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Ronald Edward Ripple for 63 years, and the mother of five children: Mike, Steve (Jan), Mark (Mary), Joanne, and Peggy Herman (Hoagie). She was the third of eleven children of Francis Patrick Mooney and Margaret Blake Mooney, both deceased. Of her ten brothers and sisters, she was preceded in death by John Joseph Mooney, Richard Blake Mooney, Joan Mooney Swiber, James Patrick Mooney, Daniel Cornelius Mooney and Donald Erwin Mooney. She is survived by four siblings - Patrick Francis Mooney, Joseph Michael Mooney, Kathleen Mooney Alvarez and Cornelius Paul Mooney. She was the loving grandmother of Shelly Ripple Rogers, Kyle Ripple, Kate Ripple Cramer, Michael Ripple, Sarah Ripple, Brent Herman, Caroline Herman Gavin, Lori Ripple, Kelly Ripple McNulty, as well as thirteen great-grandchildren and dozens of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Born in St Louis, MO in 1931, Peggy graduated from Laboure High School and moved to Bay St Louis, MS in 1949. It was there that she met Ron, who was living in New Orleans at the time and had a family summer home in the Bay. Peg and Ron were married in 1952 at St Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, and were blessed to have six children in the next seven years (their first son Joseph passed away shortly after birth). In 1962, the family of seven moved to their newly-built home in River Ridge, where Peg and Ron raised their family and lived the remainder of their lives. A loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandma, an “Aunt Peggy” to many, she always “led with the heart”. Her entire life centered around family, and she opened her heart and her home to family members throughout her life. The doors at 301 Ripple Road were always open for family reunions, birthday parties, wedding receptions and joyful gatherings of the “Mooney clan”. For many of the extended family members, Peg and Ron and the house at Ripple Road were the one family constant, the home base for relatives extending across the country. Peg and Ron’s vacations - cruises throughout the Bahamas and Florida Keys, ski trips to Colorado, boat charters on the Rhine and Shannon rivers, and cruise ship vacations worldwide - were always shared with an array of siblings, nieces and nephews, in-laws, children and grandchildren. Peggy was always the compassionate caregiver to those in need, including her mother and her father in their later years, as well as her dear brother Blake, who lived at Peg and Ron's house for more than a decade. She was always the quiet listener, the steady hand, the trusted counselor for nieces, nephews and grandchildren who sought her help and comfort. Her unconditional love for her family knew no bounds. In her later years, her most beautiful gift to her family was her handmade quilts, of which she created and gifted more than one-hundred and fifty over the last thirty years of her life. Each quilt was custom-designed for a family member, told a story or captured a unique aspect of their personality, and was lovingly captioned with a personal note which always ended with the phrase, "When this you see, remember me”. We will certainly remember her beautiful gift of selfless love and compassion, which will be her true legacy. Funeral services will be held at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie, LA. Family members and close friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, December 28th from 9:00 until 10:00 am, followed at 10:00 by a Mass of Christian Burial in the chapel at Leitz-Eagan. All those in attendance must wear masks. Family members are invited to the burial service at Garden of Memories in Metairie, immediately following the Mass. An online guestbook, as well as a link to the live steaming of Mrs. Ripple’s services, may be found at www.leitzeaganfuneralhome.com.
