On Wednesday July 22, 2026 the angels carried Mona peacefully to Heaven at the age of 71. She was predeceased by her caring and devoted husband William R. Smith Jr. Mona was the loving, caring, and devoted mother to her son, John J. Vogt IV (Dawn). She is also survived by her two grandchildren, John J. Vogt V and Vivian M. Vogt, her two brothers Ramon (Michele) Solares and Richard (Kathy) Solares, two nieces and three nephews. Mona dedicated her career to teaching and caring for special needs students with the Jefferson Parish School System. She also loved being with her grandchildren, reading, caring for her plants, taking her dog for walks, and especially church and anything religious. She will be deeply missed, but forever remembered for her love, care, and compassion.
Visitation will be held at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA 70006, on Wednesday July 29, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will follow at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Lake Lawn Park, 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans.
