

Reverend John Curry Ramsey, II, of Destrehan, LA, left our earthly home for his Heavenly home with God on April 10, 2026. John was born October 2, 1950, in Elkins, WV to John & Margaret (Wolfe) Ramsey. He graduated from Ohio University in 1972. While at Ohio University, he met the love of his life, Carol, through his roommate's girlfriend, Susan, who happened to be Carol's best friend. John & Carol were married for 53 1/2 years.
John had a successful career in construction material sales throughout the south taking the family to Metairie, LA in 1978 and then to Medina, OH in 1991. He began his call to be a pastor in 2003 through the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. He was ordained March 11, 2012, and served at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grafton, OH from 2006 to 2017. Upon retirement, he and Carol moved back to Louisiana. While there, he came out of retirement to serve at the Scandinavian Jazz Church in New Orleans, LA and First English Lutheran Church in Metairie, LA.
John was an avid golfer and stayed active riding his bike and walking.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, daughters, Melody (Todd) Costello, Medina, OH; Gail (Roger Weimer) Ramsey, Medina, OH; and Jo Anne (Jay) Winters, Destrehan, LA; grandchildren Emily & Kacey Costello; Madison Elkevizth (fiancé Kyle Duncan); David & Taylore Mendieta; and Morgan Winters; brother, Barry “Chip” (Brenda) Ramsey of Elkins, WV and nephew, Jarod (Lacy) Ramsey; brother in-law, Frederick of Katy, TX & niece, Jaime Newman. Multiple great nieces & a great nephew survive as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Tyler John Costello, and nephew Christopher.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026 at 11:00am at First English Lutheran Church, 3701 Cleary Avenue; Metairie, LA 70002. The service will be live streamed on First English's Facebook page. Visitation will be held from 9:30am until the time of service at the church. John will be interred at Spring Grove Cemetery in Medina, OH next to his grandson Tyler.
