Richard Alden McEwen Jr.

Richard Alden McEwen Jr., age 63, peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at his home in River Ridge, LA with his family at his side. He was a wonderful, kind, and loving husband, father, brother, and uncle, and he will be dearly missed. Rick is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Kennedy McEwen; son, Richard Alden McEwen III, MD; daughter, Sarah M. Reed (Adam); expected grandson, Ewan Bennett Reed; brother, Christopher J. McEwen, MD, (Lynn Murphy, MD); sister, Ann M. Harris (Jonathan) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Alden McEwen Sr. and Catherine Powell McEwen. Rick, a Baton Rouge native, graduated from Baton Rouge High, then LSU in 1976. He also attended Millsaps College and, while there, was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He was proud to have been a member of the Marine Corps Reserves. He was the owner of McEwen Landscape Service for over 30 years. Rick enjoyed playing the fiddle, cowboy shooting, autocrossing, restoring automobiles, working with plants and, most importantly, spending time with his family. He was a member of the New Orleans Strathspey and Reel Society, the N.O. Caledonian Society, the N.O. Horticulture Society, the Greater N.O. Bonsai Society, and the Single Action Shooting Society. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial service at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr., Metairie, LA on Saturday Feb 15, 2014 from 2-4pm with a formal service to begin at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions to The Prostate Cancer Foundation, pcf.org, 1-800-757-2873 or the charity of your choice in memory of Rick McEwen would be preferred.
