Rita Gussman Jordan transitioned to the arms of our Heavenly Father at the age of 79 on Sunday, May 25, 2025, in her Metairie home. She was born on June 29, 1945, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward J. Gussman, Sr. and Rita E. Babin Gussman and her sister Katherine Ann Rozell. She is survived by her husband, Bennie H. Jordan; two daughters, Karen A Jordan and Tammie Jordan Nelson; two grandchildren, Tyler Jordan and John Nelson (Elizabeth) and three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Jordan, and Makenna. She is also survived by her brother, Edward J. Gussman Jr. (Janet) and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
In her youth, Rita was in the New Orleans Southernaire Drum and Bugle Corps and a graduate of John McDonogh Sr. High c/o 65 and Southeastern University. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, and gardening. The yearly fishing trips to Grand Isle with Bennie and the girls and family friends was her favorite pastime.
Her greatest passion was caring for those around her, either as a nurse, a wife, or a mother. She was dedicated to her family and was kind and loving to all who were in her presence. She had so many children who were not her own, becoming a second mother to those in need, providing care and advice without judgement. She was the rock of her family, especially for her daughters, always present and waiting to listen or help.
Her loyalty and love for her family is her legacy and will never be forgotten. The love she created and shared lives today in those blessed enough to receive it. She will be greatly missed, and into God's hands we commend her spirit.
A Memorial Service will be held at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie, LA on Friday, May 30th at 1:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Louisiana Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Suite 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or online at www.alz.org/louisiana.
