On Christmas Eve, 2010, Robert J. Calmes, Sr., age 90, passed away. Beloved husband of the late Lucille Codifer Calmes. Loving father of four sons, Robert J. Calmes, Jr., Frank C. Calmes, Thomas M. Calmes and Edward A. Calmes; six daughters, Lucille Calmes Carollo, Dorene M. Calmes, Ileane Calmes Bergeron, Cecile Calmes Anding, Maryanne Calmes Grossimon and Carmelanne Calmes Bremermann. Also survived by 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Son of the late Edward and Bess Calmes of Wisconsin.
Mr. Calmes was a United States Army World War II veteran who served in the Southern Philippines, Luzon, New Guinea and Papua Campaigns where he received a Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, an Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, Distinguished Unit Badge, Good Conduct Medal, six Overseas Service Bars and an American Defense Service Medal.
A retired machinist with Inland Steel Company after many years of service, and a Parishioner of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, 105 Bonnabel Blvd., Metairie on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be held at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm and Wednesday from 9:00 am until time of service. Interment in Hope Mausoleum.
