Robin Medd Houston, age 66, died peacefully in her home on Monday, January 26th, after a brave battle with cancer. Robin is survived by her father, Captain John Sidney Medd of Deerfield, IL; three children, Jonathan Brantley Houston, Nicole Houston Gregory, and Matthew Randall Houston; two grandchildren, Caden and Caroline Gregory; and her brother, John Randall "Randy" Medd. She was preceded in death by her mother, the late Elaine Konerding Medd. Robin was born in Rahway, New Jersey, but has claimed New Orleans as home for the past 45 years. Her life centered on improving the quality of life for the greater New Orleans area. A respected and effective community leader, Robin served as Secretary of Labor for the State of Louisiana under Governor Mike Foster, was active in the Republican Women's Club in Jefferson Parish, was a member of Jefferson 25, and campaigned for countless elections including BESE (Board of Elementary and Secondary Education) and Jefferson Parish School Board races. Robin attended Connecticut College and was a graduate of Leadership Louisiana, New Orleans Leadership Institute, Council for a Better Louisiana and the Institute of Politics. She was a board member of the Jefferson Performing Arts Society, the Cancer Crusaders, and served as board member and president of the board of the St. Martin's Mothers' Club. Professionally, Robin was Vice President of Houston Marine / EXAMCO for over 20 years, President / CEO of Boys' & Girls' Club of SE Louisiana, Regional Director of Catapult Learning, and most recently Director of Development for Milne Services (formerly Milne Home for Women). Robin lived life to the fullest, never missing a beat. An avid Saints fan and season ticket holder, Robin attended the Super Bowl in Miami, cheering her Saints to victory. She enjoyed golf, jogging, and all things politics, especially her annual attendance at the Washington Mardi Gras Ball. Her pride and joy were her three children and two grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Sweetie." A devoted friend and confidante, Robin organized the Ya Ya's, a group of longtime friends who dined together every Monday night, trying out different New Orleans restaurants and of course solving the city's problems, voicing opinions and challenging one another over a glass of wine.
