

Ronald Joseph Doyle, longtime parishioner of St. Benilde Catholic Church, passed away early Monday morning July 18, 2011. He was 71 years old. Preceded in death by his parents Francis and Rita Doyle. Survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Agnes Juneau Doyle. Loving father of children Ronnie (Leslie), Allison (the late Emile Hebert), Scott (Courtney) and Matt (Kim). Proud grandfather to 8 grandchildren: Bradley and Alexandra Doyle; Ivy, Jennifer and Christopher Hebert; Bryce, Colin and Kelsey Doyle. Also survived by his 5 brothers: Francis (the late Ruth Doyle), Albert, Alvin (Mary), William (Jeanne) and Joseph (Cheryl). His is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ronald was a graduate of Redemptorist High School in 1957 and an All-State member of the 1956 Redemptorist City Championship Football Team. He played football at McNeese State University and received his undergraduate degree in 1963. He then received his Masters of Education from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1970. Ronald was an Honorary Christian Brother and educator, coach, mentor and positive influence to many young men at Archbishop Rummel High School for the past 48 years. He was named Track & Field District Coach of the Year numerous times and was the Head Coach of the 1982 Rummel Track & Field Louisiana State Championship Team. He was co-founder of the New Orleans based Mardi Gras Track Club, named the Redemptorist High School Alumnus of the year in 1984, and Grand Marshall of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Jefferson in 1986. He was the Louisiana High School Athletic Director of the Year in 1987-88 and 1988-89, the Director of the Louisiana Special Olympics State Games in 1990, and was inducted into the Louisiana Track & Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1994. In 1998, Ronald was inducted into the Archbishop Rummel Athletic Hall of Fame and received the Legacy Award from Archbishop Rummel High School in 2010.
Visitation will be held at St. Benilde Catholic Church, 1901 Division St. Metairie, LA, Thursday July 21, 2011 from 7:00 – 10:00 PM and again on Friday July 22, 2011 from 9:00 – 11:00 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow.
