Ronald Eugene “Joe” Nagel passed away on November 27, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Joe was born in New Orleans on December 28, 1935. He graduated from John McDonogh High School in 1953. After high school, he attended Delgado Community College where he graduated as a licensed machinist. Joe worked at American Can Company for 25 years before moving to Prager Inc., where he worked for 17 years until he retired in 1998.
Joe also served in the Air National Guard for 8 years, where he was part of the aircraft maintenance squadron. He was active in St. Angela Young at Heart, Good ole Metairie Boys, St. Angela’s Men’s Club, St. Louis King of France Knights of Columbus 4663, and the AARP. Hunting, fishing, and growing vegetables were his passions only second to caring for his entire family.
Joe is survived by his wife of over 66 years, Josie DeSalvo Nagel and their children, Bonnie Nagel Lopiccolo (Jack) and Ronnie Nagel Jr. (Diane). Joe has three grandchildren, Christopher Lopiccolo (Jamie), Alisha Lopiccolo Brouillette (Gary), and Heather Nagel Shockley (Scott).
He is also survived by his seven great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Nicholas, Taylor, and Anthony Lopiccolo, Gabrielle and Bella Brouillette, and Elijah and Hunter Shockley. To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was affectionately known as “PawPaw Joe Joe”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Althea Lambert Nagel and Eugene James Nagel and his sister, Rubinell Nagel Hidding.
Joe’s family will be forever grateful for all the thoughtful and loving care he received from all of his caregivers.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at St. Angela Merici Church, 901 Beverly Garden Dr. Metairie, LA. Visitation will be held from 10AM – 12PM with a Mass to begin at 12PM. Interment will be held at a later date.
A celebration of life will take place after Joe’s service.
