Born on March 1, 1983, in Metairie, Louisiana, Ryan lived a life marked by kindness, hard work, humility, empathy, and humor. Ryan attended and graduated from St. Ann Catholic School, Jesuit High School, and Louisiana State University. He spent more than 20 years in the restaurant industry, working at iconic New Orleans establishments including Zea Rotisserie & Bar, Lager's International Ale House, and most recently, Drago's Seafood Restaurant. Throughout his career, Ryan formed meaningful relationships with coworkers and patrons alike. He was always willing to listen, offer perspective, and lend support to those around him. He had a unique ability to connect with people and genuinely enjoyed their stories, and the simple connections that made life meaningful.
Those who knew Ryan will remember him for his warm and gentle spirit. He had a gift for remembering small, thoughtful details about the people in his life, making them feel not only welcomed but truly cherished. An avid reader, Ryan often encouraged others to read the book before watching the movie, though he usually enjoyed doing both so he could compare them himself. He was a passionate sports fan who especially loved LSU and Saints football. Animals also held a special place in Ryan's heart, and he could never resist caring for the neighborhood's stray cats.
Above all, Ryan valued his family and friendships. He lived a simple life and found great joy in the small moments that often go unnoticed by others.
Ryan is survived by his parents, Scott and Mary Burks; his siblings, Kelly Burks (Brad Matherne) and Cory Burks (Kate Burks); and his beloved nieces, Ella and Amelia Matherne, and Macey and Finley Burks. He is also survived by his aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gerald and Lolita Lannan, and Edgar and Margaret Burks.
A visitation will be held on July 6, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, with a Memorial Mass immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Team Gleason or the ASPCA.
