Sally Ford Fischer Pomeroy passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 21. She was in her Metairie home, surrounded by her loving family. Sally was the beloved wife of Dr. William Pomeroy, the loving mother of Elizabeth “Betsy” Fischer Martin (Jonathan) and Julie Fischer McCarter (Aaron) and the adoring grandmother of Ella Elizabeth Fischer Raineri. She was the caring big sister of Alexander Lawton Ford III (Christine) and the devoted daughter of the late Ella Gibson and Rear Adm. Alexander Lawton Ford, Jr. Sally was born in Staten Island, N.Y. while her father was stationed there in the United States Coast Guard. She graduated from Florida State University College of Music, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Louisiana was home, and she happily resided in the New Orleans area for nearly fifty years. Sally sang for over forty years in the New Orleans Opera Chorus, and also taught piano and voice privately. She was a member of Metairie Music Club, and was a congregant of Parkway Presbyterian Church. Whether it was spreading the joy of music, offering a boundless capacity for friendship or extending a deep and abiding love to her family, Sally was a selfless person whose life was marked by giving to others. At home with her husband and children, at the piano with her students and in the opera with her fellow vocalists, she acted with grace, determination and generosity of spirit. These characteristics also carried her through her determined fight with pulmonary fibrosis. All those who came into contact with Sally were quickly charmed by her wit, her beauty and, most of all, her kindness. She will be missed by all who knew her, but they will carry her in their hearts forever. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service from PARKWAY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 6200 Camphor Street, Metairie, on Wednesday afternoon, February 24, 2016 at 2:00. Visitation will begin in church at 1:00. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Metairie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in her memory be made to Parkway Presbyterian Church or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, http://pulmonaryfibrosis.donorpages.com/Tribute/SallyPomeroy/. An online guestbook is available at www.leitzeaganfuneralhome.com.
