

Salome Vosburgh Westbrook passed away quietly in her Metairie home on Tuesday, December 28, 2010. For sixty- seven years, Salome Westbrook was the beloved wife of her LSU sweetheart William Watson Westbrook, who preceded her in death. Born in New Orleans on December 3, 1915, she celebrated her 95th birthday on December 3, 2010, with family and friends at a dinner party at Antoine’s Restaurant. Salome (Sally) Westbrook attended Sophie B. Wright High School in New Orleans, and in 1936, graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where she was a member of the Purple Jackets pep squad. A dedicated teacher for many years, Mrs. Westbrook taught Home Economics at Warren Easton High School in New Orleans. She was a member of the Sophie Wright High School Alumni Association, the New Orleans Retired Teachers Association (NORTA) and the New Orleans Jazz Club. Salome Westbrook was a member of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Metairie. The daughter of the late Charles Nelson Vosburgh and Beulah Anderson Vosburgh, she was sister of the late Charles Nelson Vosburgh Jr. Her survivors include three sons, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: sons, William Jr., Charles and John; grandsons, Daniel, Thomas, Michael, Andrew and Timothy; granddaughter Kelly and great-granddaughters, Elodie and Aubrey.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the celebration of her life at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr. in Metairie LA, on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, 3412 Haring Rd., Metairie LA 70006, or Children’s Hospital, 200 Henry Clay Ave., New Orleans LA 70118.
