Born in New Orleans to the late Mr. Salvadore Vinterella and Mrs. Josephine Varuso Vinterella, Sal’s early years included working in his family’s grocery store. His magnetic personality and gift for conversation led him to a successful career in sales.
In 1992, he made a life-changing decision to return to The University of New Orleans for his master’s degree in counseling. Sal went on to become a licensed professional counselor, providing guidance and support to countless young people during his years at Holy Cross, Destrehan, and Pope John Paul II High Schools. His deep empathy and remarkable way with teens made him a cherished member of the faculty and a trusted mentor.
Sal had an extraordinary zest for life. He loved horses and the racetrack, all things Italian, a good game of blackjack, fried chicken—and most of all—his family. He told the best stories, had a sharp wit, and gave the best advice. Sal was a steady and grounding presence and a source of comfort and laughter in the lives of those around him.
He will be remembered for his humor, heart, guidance, and unwavering love for the people he cared about. His legacy endures in the lives he touched and the stories he shared.
