After a courageous and valiant fight, Sang “Sammy” Nguyen gained his angel's wings on August 25, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 46 years old. He was a hard-working, devoted husband, father, brother and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Giang, and his three greatest blessings, his children, Payton, Summer, and Lana. He is also survived by his mother Xu Nguyen; his sister Mai and husband Wee Neo; brothers Sanh, Sinh, Sang, Son; nephew Seth and numerous other nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father Xuan Nguyen. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, co-workers, and all who knew and loved him.
Born on November 1, 1974, Sammy grew up in Harvey, Louisiana and was a long-time resident of Metairie. He was an alumnus of West Jefferson High-school and later graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in MIS. He is best known for being the star quarterback for the flag-football team Sons of Asia (SOA) where they won many intramural championships. He was a great cook and often cooked for his teammates and friends. From there, he became an avid fan of the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints. He also developed a love for fishing. His generosity was evident as he often shared his catch with family and friends. Sammy will always be remembered for his positive attitude and his ability to always see good in everyone he meets.
But among all his passions, nothing could compare to his love and devotion for his family. He spent many weekends on the beach, going to the park, fishing, and playing ball with his children. His children especially enjoyed going to Disney World and Universal Studios. He and Giang also enjoyed going to open houses to gain ideas for their rental properties as he was always planning for their future. They will forever cherish their short time on earth with their father and will treasure all the wonderful memories they shared.
We will celebrate Sammy’s life on Monday and Tuesday, September 13th and 14th, 2021 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Monday and again on Tuesday from 9:00 am - 11:00 am until the time of the Buddhist service in the parlor at 11:00 am. Interment will immediately follow at Lake Lawn Park Cemetery, New Orleans Louisiana. We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation for all the love and support from our family and friends.
