

Sara was born on October 14, 1949 to Robert and Sara Stevens in Fort Benning, GA. She spent the first twelve years of her life in a military family that moved all over the United States and to Japan. After her father’s army retirement they settled in her father’s hometown of Laurel, MS. Sara graduated from R.H. Watkins High School in Laurel, MS in 1968, at the same time she met the love of her life, Ben Stone, to whom she was married for 55 years.
Sara moved to Auburn, AL immediately after she married Ben. She began working for the Auburn University newspaper while helping to support the couple while Ben was in veterinary school. Sara and Ben moved to the New Orleans area after Ben’s graduation in veterinary medicine in 1971 and by 1975 they settled in their forever home in Metairie, LA. In this neighborhood, she made some of her best friends, who became an extended family. Sara spent her life giving everything she had to raising a family. She let you know every day that you were loved.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Sara Stevens, Jr. She is survived by her husband Dr. Ben Stone, her two daughters, Angela (Kevin) Crossen and Amanda (Jono) Gibbs, and three grandsons Gavin Crossen, Jake Crossen and Tobin Gibbs. She is also survived by her siblings, Caroline Mosely of Section, AL, Jarrelldine (Rusty) Bond of Jackson, MS, Millie (Jess) Bowden of Arkadelphia, AR, and Robert Stevens, III of Laurel, MS. She also leaves behind her extended family, Tommy Eastman, Doug Eastman, and Morgan Blanchard along with her nieces and nephews and closest friends Brenda Hebert, Diane Beason and Pam Bouchon. All of whom she loved very much.
