Shirley "Sylvia" G. Rodriguez

Shirley "Sylvia" G. Rodriguez, age 89, of Metairie, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2025. Shirley was born in New Orleans. She was the daughter of the late Sidney J. Guidry and Lena Mayeaux Guidry. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Lawrence, Clarence, Rodney, and Leonard Guidry. She is survived by her sons, Joseph P. Sunseri III (Dona), and Steve G. Sunseri (Iliana), grandchildren, Joseph Sunseri IV, Mary Sunseri, and Natalie Sunseri, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and her extended family that she adopted as her own from her daughter-in-law Dona's family.

Shirley graduated from Francis T. Nichols High School and Phillips Business College. Shirley was a long-time resident of Jefferson Parish. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Granny." She was a devout Catholic and regularly attended Mass with her friends at Metairie Manor. She was sweet, strong, and resourceful. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and dancing at the Jefferson Orleans. Granny was a children's short story writer for her beloved grandchildren and was a naturally talented artist.

The family would like to express their appreciation to all those who assisted her in her final days, who were so kind and loving to Shirley.

A Visitation for Sylvia will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at St. Ann Catholic Church and Shrine, 3609 Transcontinental Dr, Metairie, Louisiana 70006. A Funeral Mass will begin at 1:00 PM. Inurnment will immediately follow at 2:45 PM at Saint Joseph Abbey Cemetery, 75376 River Road, St. Benedict, LA 70457. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Sylvia's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
