

Stephen joined the United States military at 17 years old. He proudly served his country and received four honorable discharges. His honorable discharges include; The United States Navy in 1955, The United States Army in 1958, The United States Marine Corps in 1961 and The Louisiana Army National Guard in 1962. He was a qualified parachutist with the 11th Airborne Division of the United States Army.
Stephen was a graduate of the New Orleans Police Academy and was assigned to the 3rd District, where he worked for many years. He received Certificates of Merit recognizing him for outstanding service, and in 1960 he received the Medal of Merit for his bravery beyond the call of duty. He later was assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, where he served under Jim Garrison, and his final assignment was with the New Orleans Coroner’s Office, where he served under Dr. Frank Minyard. After his retirement from the NOPD, he remained an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Stephen had the spirit for living life. He found joy in the simple pleasures of gathering over a meal and sharing stories together. His energy and wisdom were expressed often through the storytelling of his life with vivid detailing. He leaves behind a legacy of wisdom that will never be forgotten by his friends and family.
Married to Gloria D. Bordelon for 67 years, they resided in Metairie, LA. Stephen and Gloria shared two children, Stephen P. Bordelon, Jr. and Pamela Bordelon Hunley.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents Mamie and Winton Bordelon; his wife, Gloria D. Bordelon; his sister, Sylvia B. Fastoff; his brother-in-law, Adam L. Fastoff, Sr.; his son, Stephen P. Bordelon, Jr.; and his nephew, Adam L. Fastoff, Jr.
Survivors include his daughter, Pamela Bordelon Hunley (James); granddaughter, Nicole Bordelon Johnson (Paul); great grandchildren, Sullivan Ray, Dominic Ross and Sebastian Paul. He is also survived by nieces Angelle Fastoff, Annette Terrell (Brett), and Alison Smith (Stephan) of Metairie, LA; great niece and nephews; Christian Smith, Joseph Fastoff, Grant Smith, Chloe Terrell, and Griffin Terrell; his lifelong friend, Louis B. Merhige; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at St Angela Merici Church, 901 Beverly Garden Dr., Metairie, LA on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow mass in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum, New Orleans, LA.
